The gallery’s main wall is alive with color! Earthscapes features new artwork by local mixed media artist Karen Stiehl Osborn. Karen draws her inspiration from the natural landscapes that surround her as she travels. These new artworks are a combination of collage and painting. She has painstakingly painted each section and then arranged the sections to create the landscapes as she remembers them. Inspired by some of her favorite places, the memories and emotions are an integral part of the artworks.
In June 2014 I spent a week at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City. During this time I painted the cloth for these artworks. When I returned home to my studio, I started cutting and arranging and collaging, capturing the scenes in my memory. The art pieces in this exhibition are slices of these landscapes — from the waters of the Chesapeake Bay to the summer skies over the midwestern cornfields. These are the places I remember and love.
